Nathaniel HAMMOND was born on 27 July 1734 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.²⁰² He served in the military Second foot Company of Militia in 1775 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.^98,467 He was appointed to attend the State Constitutional Convention on 19 August 1779 in Cambridge, MA²⁰² Nathaniel was appointed to represent Rochester as a delegate to the State Convention for the new Federal Constitution on 20 December 1787 in Boston, Suffolk, MA⁴⁶⁸ He died on 1 February 1827 at the age of 92 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.²⁰² History and Genealogy of the Descendants of William Hammond, P. 207

Nathaniel, oldest son of Benjamin 3rd, was endowed with great strength of body and mind. He engaged in a variety of occupations, such as teaching school winters, and freighting to the neighboring seaports of Nantuckey, Newport, etc. He was Selectman and Assessor of Rochester for 19 years; delegate of the constitutional Convention in 1780; member of the Legislature three years; and Moderator of the annual town meetings of Rochester many years. During the War of the Revolution, he united heart and hand in the cause, and raised a company of militia, of which he was appointed captain. He married your, and settled on a farm inherited from his wife's father, situated in teh northerly part of Hammondtown. He m. 1st, in 1756, Phebe, daughter of Nathan Hammond, who d. May 10, 1801, ae. 63. He m. 2nd, in 1803, Elizabeth, daughter of Jacob Hathaway, who d. Jan. 13, 1854, ae 92. Capt. Nathaniel Hammond d. Feb 1, 1827, ae 93, without issue.

Peace having been declared, Commerce began to receive attention, and in May, 1785, the town instructed Lt Col White to use his "Influence that a large Impost be laid on all Goods imported in British Bottoms"; also, in 1786, to use his influence, "that there be a Bank of paper money Emitted by the General Court." In August, 1786, Earl Clap, Nathaniel Hammond, and Abraham Holmes were made a committee "to correspond with the other Towns in order to Divise & Adopt" legal measures for a redress of grievances.

Nathaniel HAMMOND and Phebe HAMMOND were married on 17 June 1758 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.^202,469,470 Phebe HAMMOND, daughter of Nathan HAMMOND and Sarah SNOW, was born on 5 April 1734 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.⁴⁷¹ She died on 10 May 1801 at the age of 67 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.^202,471,472

Nathaniel HAMMOND and Elizabeth HATHAWAY were married in 1803 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.^202,473 Elizabeth HATHAWAY died on 13 January 1854 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.⁴⁷⁴
