120. John Arnold HAMMOND was born on 9 February 1730/1 in Newport, Newport, RI. He died in June 1781 at the age of 50 in New York. He has reference number 1327. Notes from Family Record written by Elnathan Hammond, Sr.

My son John Arnold Hammond with his wife and two children, a son and daughter, a negro boy and negro girl, with all his household goods, provision and some stock, removed from Hence and sailed for Cornwall, in Minis in Nova Scotia to begin a settlement there, having the last summer lived and taken up a right of land there and made some preparation for a settlement.

John Arnold Hammond was later taken by the English European Enemies and carried a prisoner to New York and died in a hospital some time June 1781.

Notes in Descendants of Benjamin Hammond: This paragraph following his marriage and death in the record, contains the only allusion to the children of John Arnold Hammond; it is continued for a line or two in cipher. His wife, Mary Scott, is spoken of by the descendants as a niece of Benjamin Franklin. He returned from Nova Scotia, and engaged on the patriot side in the revolution, was captured aboard a ship, taken to New York and died a prisoner. The record of his descendants at Middlebury is preserved in a family bible.

John Arnold m. Jun 6, 1754, at Newport, RI, Mary Scott, who is said to have been a niece of Benjamin Franklin. After his marriage he went with his family to Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, with the intention of founding a settlement there. He afterwards returned and engaged on the patriot side of the Revolution, was captured aboard a ship, taken to New York, and died a prisoner in the Hospital sometime in Jun 1781.
