Saw six months active service at the front with the French at Laon and St. Quentin. On November 17, 1917, returned to the United States and enlisted at Fort Jay, New York, in the United States Army. Arrived back in France on June 10, 1919, and made sergeant in the Intelligence Police, A. E. F. On duty at Remiremont, Bar-le-Duc, Villerupt and Luxembourg. Returned to the United States June 16, 1919, and discharged at Camp Upton, Long Island, as sergeant, June 15, 1919.

The use of the name Eugene is also found with the upstate New York Norwoods - the Francis Norwood line. Eugene F Norwood, son of Francis Norwood and Mary Bush died at Andersonville Prison in Georgia 30 July 1864, during the Civil War. Note also, the name Gustavus first appears in the Francis Norwood line. Have not been able to connect the two families or lines, but I do believe that there was communication between them. May have started with Mary Norwood and Thomas Sickles.
