Elliott ROBERTS was born about 1728 in Caroline Co, VA.15 Date based on earliest known land purchase - needed to be at least 21 to do that. 29 30 31 He owned Survey 40 ac on 26 November 1766 in Amherst Co, VA.32 33 34 He owned Survey of 46 acres on 6 December 1770 in Amherst Co, VA.35 36 37 38,39 40 41 42 Elliott Witness to land purchase for John Thomas on 6 February 1784 in Amherst Co, VA.21 43 He signed a will on 8 April 1788 in Amherst Co, VA.44 In the name of God amen the Eighth day of April one thousand
seven hundred and Eighty Eight I Eliot Roberts of the County of
Amherst being weak in Body but in perfect memory and remembrance
I do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner
and form following viz: first I bequeath my soul into the hand of
almighty God hoping that through the meritorious death and suffering
of my great Redeemer to Receive free pardon and forgiving of all my
Sins and my body to the grave to be buried in Christian Burial
at the discretion of my Executors hereafter nominated as for my
worldly goods whom is has been Pleased God to bestow upon me
I give and Bequeath in manner and form following viz:  I give to
my son Zachariah Roberts all the different tracts of land adjoining
the tracts wherein he Lives namely all the Land which is or has been
devised or conveyed to me on Rockfish river joining Matthew Harris
and the Land of John Harrison deceased.  I give to my son John
Roberts
my Tract of Land Lying on the head of Buck Creek Bought
of Joseph Montgomery – I give to my son Matthew Roberts my Plan=
tation and the different Track of Land adjoin(sic) the Plantation
Whereon I now live – I give to my son Henry Roberts three hundred
pounds specie to be Raised out of my Estate during his
minority and to be paid unto him on his coming of age  I give
each of my daughters Elizabeth Thomas Frances Roberts Susannah
Roberts and Ann Roberts
– a small negro and horse and saddle and
feather Bead and furniture to them and their heirs Lawfully begotten
and I give to Each of my sons John Roberts Henry Roberts and Matthew
Roberts
a horse and saddle and feather Bead and furniture I give to
my Daughter Sarah Thomas and to her heirs lawfully begotten,four negroes namely, Peter Mol Jeny and Ross they being the negros which
John Thomas has now in his possession – all the remainder of my Estate
Which is not devised I leave to be equally divided amongst my daug=
hters and sons namely Zachariah Roberts John Roberts Henry
Roberts Matthew Roberts Elizabeth Thomas Frances Roberts Susanna
Roberts and Ann Roberts
/on my youngest children coming of age to be given them/
to be equally divided amongst them and
their heirs, and my will is that if any of my Children should die
without issue that their parts be equally divided amongst the
survivors.  I lend to my wife Elizabeth Roberts three negroes to be
Chosen by her self at the Division of my Estate I lend to my wife
Elizabeth Roberts one third Part of my house hold and kitchen
furniture and one sixth Part of my stock of horses Cattle and hogs
During her natural life and I make my wife Elizabeth Roberts and
My two sons Zachariah Roberts and John Roberts and my brother
Henry Roberts my Executors to Execute this my Last will and
Testament and my will is that my brother Henry Roberts have a
Privilege in all the Land and Property above mentioned and my
will is that he have a sufficient maintainance(sic) at his own
discretion During his natural Life as witness my hand and seal

In the name of God Amen the 19th day of May 1788, I Eliot Roberts of the County of Amherst being in perfect memory and remembrance but weak in Body, do make and ordain this following alteration in the within Will which is my last Will and Testament Viz in the within contents my will was that my estate should be kept together till my youngest child come of age, which I do by these presents revoke and my will is that my Brother Henry Roberts and my wife Elizabeth Roberts, have it in their power to divide and give to either of the legatees their parts at any time that they namely my Brother Henry Roberts and my wife Elizabeth) shall think proper for that purpose, and I do by these presents make good and confirm any thing whatever that they shall think proper to do in behalf or for either the legatees within mentioned as witness my hand and seal set the date above mentioned.

A Witness thereto and ordered to be for further proof.  And
At a Court held for the aforesaid County the Sixth Day of
October 1788 This Will was further proved by the Oath of
Cornelius Murrell a Witness thereto.  Whereupon Henry
Roberts, Zachariah Roberts & John Roberts Executors
Herein named with William Harris & Charles Irving the
Securities Entered into and Acknowledged Bond in the
penalty of Five thousand pounds, and took the oath
Required by Law, and ordered to be Recorded

And at a Court held for the aford County the first Day of December 1788 This Will Was further proved by the Oath of Thomas Farrar and ordered to be recorded
                                                        Test  Wm Loving Clk He had his estate probated on 5 January 1795 at Legatees divide estate in Amherst Co, VA.46 The years of birth for the 8 children referred to in Elliot Roberts's will are first in the order that he refers to them and with general assumptions based on standards of majority, marriages etc. I have no concrete proof for any of them.

Elliott ROBERTS and Elizabeth PHILLIPS were married about 1750 in Amherst Co, VA.47,48,49 Elizabeth PHILLIPS, daughter of Leonard PHILLIPS and Joanna DAVIS, was born about 1734 in Amherst Co, VA.
